The following are a few of the treatment centers I've had excellent experiences with in Canada:

Addington House
Treatment begins with a non-medical detox that can last up to ten days at Addington House. This is followed by a rehabilitation phase which involves a minimum of six hours a day of intense group therapy coupled with individual counseling. They recommend a stay of at least three months to provide for a lasting recovery. Residential treatment is followed by a two year aftercare program. Programs include yoga, assertiveness training, health awareness, relapse prevention, motivational group and drug and alcohol education. Montreal, Quebec.

Edgewood
This center approaches treatment using a biopsychosocial model, meaning they consider the patient, the patient's family, and the social system in treating addictions. De-tox is provided by a medical staff, on site. Each patient receives a psych. evaluation from a staff psychiatrist so that co-occuring issues can be identified and treated accordingly. Length of stay is determined solely by patient's progress but typically it's up to 60 days for the intensive phase. Twelve Step is an integral component of their treatment as well as other modalities. Extended care is available for those needing more time in a less structured environment. Edgewood offers Insite, an intensive six day treatment option for family members to work on understanding addiction and healing themselves. Nanaimo, Vancouver Island.

Sunshine Coast Health Center
Exclusively for men age 19 and over, this center has its own detox facility. Treatment is based on a Twelve Step program. In addition to traditional practices, Sunshine Coast believes that health, fitness and leisure activities are vital to long-term recovery, and integrate wellness therapy, a fitness program and offsite recreation into treatment. While at the center, patients attend three AA/NA meetings a week. They also offer a transitional living program, online support, and additional support for alumni facing major life-changing events. Sunshine Coast, British Columbia.
